In the Pontifical Lateran University there are also Institutes: ad instar Facultatis in accordance with art. 6 of the Ordinationes of Veritatis Gaudium, the Higher Institute of Moral Theology or “Alphonsian Academy”, the “Augustinianum” Patristic Institute, and the “Claretianum” Institute of Theology of Consecrated Life, which have their headquarters in Rome.
These Institutes, according to their historical origin, operate as “special research centers” to cultivate and promote specialized theological training, develop scientific research and initiate students to teach, in the light of the Church’s magisterium. They confer academic degrees according to their own statutes approved by the Holy See, which establish their legal nature and regulate their teaching activity, administrative functioning and economic management.
