Italian language

Accepting the guidelines of the Conference of Rectors of the Roman Pontifical Universities, CLAS offers, in collaboration with the Dante Alighieri Society, Italian language courses for foreigners that guarantee an adequate level of knowledge for curricular studies and the needs of daily life.

The learning of the Italian language is mandatory for all non-Italian students enrolled in any PUL Faculty or Institute, who cannot demonstrate that they have a previous and certified knowledge of the Italian language, which is essential for following lessons.

The courses, at various levels, develop the skills of understanding, speaking, reading and writing, to allow students to acquire a linguistic competence that allows them to better follow academic subjects. In addition, they introduce elements of Italian culture to provide a broader panorama of Italy.

The courses are activated following the classification of knowledge levels (elementary A1 / A2, intermediate B1 / B2, advanced C1 / C2) based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. At the beginning of the sessions an aptitude test is provided to divide students into study groups appropriate to the level of command of the language.

It is necessary, for non-Italian students of PUL, to document the level of knowledge of the Italian language as required by their Faculty or Institute. Upon enrollment, a certification from an institution recognized by the University may also be presented.

The courses are open to internal and external students of the Pontifical Lateran University.
